Membership Committee

Membership is Power! The Branch must main a minimum number of members to retain its charter which helps the National organization have strength when advocating for civil rights. Working in concert with the Branch Secretary, this committee is responsible for recruiting, enrolling, and tracking all levels of adult and life memberships. When needed, also assists the Youth Council maintaining the requisite number of youth memberships to maintain the Youth Council Charter. Major tasks of the Committee organizing and putting on periodic membership drives, soliciting volunteers to recruit members at Branch and community events, ordering and distributing supplies and helping the Secretary assure that accurate membership records are maintained. Volunteers are needed to help plans drives, staff enrollment tables at events and make follow-up calls to members about memberships status.


All Branch-elected Executive Committee members are assigned to this essential committee for the Branch and are encouraged to commit to turning in a minimum of ten memberships per year to assist the Branch in its recruitment effort and maintaining its charter.

Education Committee

The NAACP Education Committee strives to ensure that all students have access to an equal and high-quality education by eliminating education-related racial and ethnic disparities in our public schools. Through advocacy training, policy development and guidance, building collaborative networks, and direct action, the National Education program works to assure an equitable start for all Americans.

Freedom Fund Committee

Working closely with the Branch Treasurer, this committee is tasked with organizing and planning projects and events that will assure the financial needs of the Branch are adequately funded. Major tasks of the committee include recruiting volunteers and talent for speakers at events such as the Annual Awards Banquet, entering and completing contract negotiations with venues and caterers, event promotion, ticket sales, taking reservations, advertising, sales of ads in souvenir journals and working with the President to identify awardees and student scholarship honorees.


The Holiday Social in the month of December is also organized by this committee which secures a venue for the event, develops the program agenda, engages a caterer, securing prizes for the Holiday Raffle and for door prizes and recruiting volunteers for speakers and other tasks associated with the event.

Legal Redress Committee

 The NAACP Legal Redress Committee consists of committed members, supported by knowledgeable local citizens, working to address discrimination in all its forms and foster reconciliation within the community.

The Committee is responsible for:

  • Investigating all reported cases
  • Supervising litigation involving the Unit
  • Keeping the National Office and the Branch informed on case progress (while refraining from providing general legal advice)

NAACP members are volunteers who generously dedicate their time but may not always be available. The Committee works to enlist the support of other community organizations on issues affecting the interests of African Americans and other communities of color.


Additionally, complaints are not considered formally submitted until the required Legal Redress Form has been properly completed and filed with the Branch. Email the completed form to legal@253naacp.org.
