our mission and vision

The Tacoma Branch NAACP works to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination in Tacoma and Pierce County.

  • We believe that all people deserve access to physical, emotional, intellectual, and political power.
  • We acknowledge that changing policy is necessary but insufficient for changing a destructive culture of discrimination which breeds, hate, distrust, and violence.

We believe that we need to:

  • Develop and sustain local political, educational, social, and economic equity practices for all people.
  • Work with community partners to leverage equity practices to achieve equality of rights and eliminate race prejudice in our community.
  • Develop and sustain local processes to remove policy and cultural barriers of racial discrimination.
  • Inform the public of the adverse social and economic effects of racial discrimination.
  • Outreach, build and sustain relationships with change makers throughout our community.

We envision:

  • A Tacoma/Pierce County community with a thriving culture where all individuals have equal rights and there is no racial hatred or racial discrimination.
  • A Tacoma/Pierce County community where the espoused values of America are practiced by individuals, families, schools, communities, faith communities, workplaces, and recreational institutions.
  • The release of exceptional creative, cooperative energy and actions empowering complete participation of all residents lifting each other to higher heights of understanding, respect and inclusion.
  • Collaboration  with education, government, and local business organizations to develop, revise, and sustain pathways to success for our youth and their parents.
